deconstruction prodigy smack my bitch up

This video does not consist of the band or a band performance; this is a video, which has a narrative.

The whole video is point of view shots, and is within the eyes of one character. This video uses shock tactics, as some of the things that the audience see are vile and disgusting. For example the shots in which you see him being sick, and peeing. It seems very realistic when it comes to these shots and is showing the lifestyle within this person. This attracts the audience in a way in which they want to see what happens next as they don’t believe it could be as sick as what they had previously just seen and this is the case throughout the whole video.

It shows the day of the way a man lives his life. Getting drunk, taking drugs, being sick, lap dancing clubs, clubbing an other party lifestyle day to day routines. The ending is the part of the video which makes the audience confused, as throughout the whole video the audience believe the character is man, and this is because when he is urinating he does it standing up, when he goes into a club he talks and dances with the girls, so subliminally you recognise this character as a man. However at the end of the video when the unknown character is lying on the bed after performing sexual acts with a girl, the character stands up and looks in the mirror and the reflection the audience see is a female. So it suggests that men and women are equal in a sense that people assume its always men that live the hardcore party, promiscuous lifestyle whereas this video suggests different.

The editing is very subtle like within cuts, the takes are very long as its in the point of view of a character so its like what he is seeing, when in real life looking about there are no cuts apart from when blinking, so this is the same case for the character. The only cuts are when he changes setting like from the toilet to the club for example but in some cases it shows the journey from one place to another.

The lighting is generally dark lighting as the majority is within a club and usually clubs don’t have normal, natural lighting its all-artificial strobe lights, the only high key lighting is when in the bathroom when getting changed, as that is usually the case in a real life situation, you wouldn’t have strobe lighting in a bathroom, so this video is just matching conventional lighting within real life situations.

This video is disjunctive, as the lyrics of the song don’t match with what the audience see. However the pace of the song is synchronising with the pace of the editing and the camera movement. So it all links better together and flows much easier.
