Ejectorseat

I am going to make a video for one of the songs by a band called Ejectorseat.
The band consist of 4 members: *
Band Members

Ejectorseat are

Pete Backler - Singing / Guitar

Gary (Barrington) Cole - Guitar / Singing

Hurricane Andrew Foster - Drums

Phil Tonge - Bass Guitar / Singing

I dont personally know this band however about a year ago they added me on myspace to get there music more known, i speak to the guitarist occasionally about there music and they are more than happy for me to use there stuff and would like a copy of it at the end.
The band are a 4 piece from Derby, they seem to be getting bigger and have been on tour.
I would say that they are quite pop-rock and their songs are very different to each other with the odd acoustic song. so i think by using Ejectorseat means less pressure as with such a variety of songs and quite a few to choose from means i can pick the one i get the best idea for.
They are on myspace on my page so if anyone wants to have a look feel free to add them, they are more than happy with that

Find 2 videos from the same artist which represents them in 2 different ways.

Find 2 videos from the same artist which represents them in 2 different ways.

Madonna-Music

In this video madonna is represented in a rich way, were she is the leader of her group that like to go out partying all the time and drink expensive alcohol and go riding round in a gold limo with a chauffeur. With the fur coat and the cowboy hat emphasises the rich side of her as fur coats are associated with the rich. when dancing in a club with other females portrays madonna as some sort of lesbian icon, which again is emphasized when the scene of her in a stripper club and then continuing the party in her limo.

Madonna- Dont cry for me argentina

In this video madonna is represented in a more elegant way, shown by what she is wearing and how her hair is, as all these factors make her look more classy. She is portrayed as a beauty queen who everyone looks up to. This music video is obviously for a film and so madonna is represented in a way that would link with the film. She is portrayed as a highly respected role model with the way she is moving is very soft and gentle and is like everyone is to look up to her. This links with the song as its not a fast pacey song, its a slow ballad, with very gentle sounds and this links with the music video. possibly someone famous as its like she is talking infront of a huge crowd which all seem to love her as by the end they are all cheering and screaming

Case Study-Michael Jackson

Michael jackson is a key artist to look at how representations have changed over the years through the different types of music videos that have been created.
-in the beat it video he is represented in a bad boy kinda way, with the other characters all looking like they are up to no good, however when he first began in the Jackson 5 they were all represented in an innocent, youthful, angelic way. So it goes to show how representations can change in different music videos.
-the director of an American werewolf in London is the director of Michael Jackson's thriller video which turned the way in which people perceived music and music videos
-Intertextuality as the dierector was also a film director and John Landis wanted thriller to have a story, a plot and different characters.
-The video would cost around $500,000 to make and they were struggling to raise the money to pay for it
-then franchising took place and they made a documentary of "the making of thriller" which they sold to the television industry to make money to pay for the music video
-By creating this music video it gave them the opportunity to make it purchasable so that people are able to pay for it and buy it.

History of the pop video

-It is a marriage of sound and vision is what a music video has been deemed as.
-The first colour music video was in 1950
-1955 Music videos chnged, the word teenager was created and had the representation of rebellion. Rock'n'Roll was created and Elvis Presley changed the music scene
-1967 Top of the pops was created and if a band were unable to make it or perform live then they would send in a video of them singing the song, this was an increase in music videos but for practical reasons.
-1979 Queen produced Bohemian Rhapsody but was too complex to do live so a music video was needed. It took a record breaking 3 hours to create and cost £3500 to make which in the music video industry is very cheap.

Beginning of MTV
-MTV made pop videos come to life and accessible to people in their homes.
-August 1981 MTV was created and the first music video shown was video killed the radio star by Buggles, which was created in just 1 day.

-This video was a disjunctive video and the director Russell Mulcahy thought this was necessary so the audience were unable to predict what was going to happen
-At first MTV was only accessible to several thousand households which isn't many at all, considering howmany it could be reaching.
-Also the minimal amounts of music videos they had which was around 200 as the music industry were not investing in making them as they felt it was a dead end and would not make the money back from creating them
-however MTV were hoping that if it was successful more record companies would invest in making more videos.
- Now 300 million homes have access to MTV and is available in 83 different countries
-A music video by Madonna which tells the story in a day in the life of Madonna which caused controversy, so in this case the video was shown in only the UK and not in America

-Directors of music videos realised that the band or artist didn't necessarily have to be in the video itself and could be about something else in a non conventional way. The first band to do this was Talk Talk-It's my life and was directed by Tim Pope.
